I went to the Glen Ellyn Village Hall tonight (Monday) because Greg Matthews, (Glen Ellyn, President) was having a "workshop" on teardowns. I went up to meet him before the meeting since he had not returned my calls. He was interested and apologetic for not getting back to me. I handed him our statement that we made to the DuPage Forest Preserve District's Land Acquisition Committee on 12/6, see the attachment. He advised me that he has received over 100 letters in favor of the Special 8. He said he is in favor of preserving them. The NEWS is he said the Glen Ellyn Park District is still reluctant to taking over the property - even if they get it for free from the Forest Preserve District. So we need to push the Glen Ellyn Park District asking them to accept the parcel and keep it as is with no improvements. I have heard them say once they get a parcel "people always ask for improvements." Let's be sure that they know we want the parcel kept as is, as people have enjoyed it as a park/nature preserve for the past 50+ years. Please write Sandra Minogue, President, Glen Ellyn Park District, 185 Spring Ave, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 at your earliest convenience. The backup step remains to get the state of IL to buy the parcel as a nature preserve using the $10 Million fund that the state legislature has available. Please write your State Representative and State Senator. Ask them to Save the Special 8 as a nature preserve. Call 312-814-6440 to get your legislators names and contact info. Thanks again for your continued support. Please pass on the news to all interested parties.
